Habitat: Marine, reef-associated. Natural History Notes: Young usually seen in grass beds while adults have a greater range of habitats, including reefs. Adults feed during the day on mollusks, worms, brittle stars, hermit crabs, crabs, sea urchins and other crustaceans. Depth: 1 - 75m Characteristics: Blue stripe just below the eye. Bluish blotch at the end of the pectoral fin base. Cheek area usually blue with yellow spots. Capable of extensive and rapid changes in color pattern, including a blotched phase. Most often seen as an iridescent silvery fish, whose scales tend to have brassy edges.
