Habitat: This Tanager species is commonly observed in forest and forest borders in foothills and highlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica to western Ecuador. Natural History Notes: The Silver-throated Tanager is usually found in pairs or in groups, and often as part of a group of mixed species. Its diet consists of small fruits, insects and spiders. The call is buzzy sharp sound like "bzeet". Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: This species has a total length of 5.25 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a short, pointed black bill. The plumage consists of a mostly bright yellow coloration with black stripes al over the back. The wings have their edges green colored. The common name comes from the gray silvery white coloration of the throat. The throat is then bordered by a fine black line. The female looks similar but the plumage is overall duller and we can usually distinguish black stripes on top of the head.
