Habitat: This species can be found in swampy forests and along forested rivers of the lowlands. Distribution: Species reported from Costa Rica to Paraguay, northeastern Argentina and southeastern Brazil. Natural History Notes: This species is usually found alone or in pairs. You may have a hard to see it in the forest but not when they come out to feed in more open areas. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 20 inches and 22 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). The species can be recognized by a decurved green bill and short green legs. The plumage is mostly dark green, with a brighter coloration on the neck and chest. We can also see a crest that sometimes is hard to see.
