Habitat: Can be found in undergrowth of humid forests, often along streams. They will favor a habitat where Heliconia plants are present. Distribution: The species has been reported from Nicaragua to western Panama; western Colombia to northwestern Ecuador. In panama, this species has been found only in the western part of the country, including Bocas del Toro. Natural History Notes: Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 10.16 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). Its beak is long (3.17 cm), decurved and black. The above part has a bronze coloration and we can distinguish a crown and mask and cinnamon band behind the eye. The tail has a chestnut coloration but a black subterminal band and the white tip can be easily discerned.
