Bocas Species Database Distribution: This species has been reported from the Arctic Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. Natural History Notes: This species is closely related the species Periclimenes patae. We can differentiate first by their color pattern, because P. patae is nearly transparent and not at all iridescent. Characteristics: Here is a list of key characteristics provided by Lebour's original description of periclimenes iridescens: It posesses seven dorsal teeth on the rostrum, distinctly unequal second pereopods, a single rounded tooth on the dactyl of the major chela, the dactyl of the major chela curving over and extending well beyond the fixed finger, pereopods 3-5 each with 3 or more sets of spine setae along distal third of propodal flexor margin. In addition, Lebour described the color pattern of P. iridescens as brightly "iridescent". |
