Habitat: Present in warm-temperate waters. Distribution: This species has been reported from the Gulf of Mexico to North Carolina. Natural History Notes: This species is often confused with another Western Atlantic Nodipecten species called Nodipecten nodosus. Depth: 15-82 m Characteristics: Nodipecten fragosus has 7 to 8 ribs and we can often distinguish some nodes on both upper and lower valves. The color pattern consists of an orange to reddish brown background.
