Bocas Species Database Habitat: Found on the underside of intertidal rocks or in shallow grassy, sandy areas. Characteristics: Shell reaches 11.5 mm and is very dark purple-brown to black-brown, with irregular white patches below the suture. The interior of the aperture is purplish white, with about six lirae that become swollen ridges on adult shells. These ridges are adjacent to the brown outer lip. The columella is purple-brown. The apex is often missing. The shell is solid and ovate. The whorls are slightly convex, sculptured with weak crowded spiral cords crossed by oblique axial threads. The sculpture runs to the periphery of the body whorl. Below this point, a series of shallow grooves creates rounded spiral cords, crossed by thickened axial threads. The base is predominated by thinner spiral cords. The visible soft parts of the animal are mostly black, with some scattered little dots of white and yellow. The tentacles are short and have yellow tips and a band of yellow near the eyes. |
