Habitat: This species can be found in coastal mudflats and in higher abundance on the Pacific side. Distribution: This species breeds in Alaska and Canada and migrates south from southern United States to Chile. Natural History Notes: Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 30.48 cm and 35.56 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). The beak is long and straight and a little shaped upward. The legs have an orange-yellow coloration and extend beyond the tail. This species will have its nonbreeding plumage when seen in Panama. Therefore, the part above is brown and gray with white spots. The throat and the chest are covered with grayish and white dots, which become completely white toward the underparts. When this bird is flying, you can distinguish the dark wings, the white rump and the white tail. The juvenile looks similar but has a darker coloration above.
