Habitat: This Tody-Flycatcher species will prefer habitats such as humid forest borders, second-growth woodland abd clearings with scattered trees, in the lowlands and lower foothills. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica to western Venezuela and western Ecuador. Natural History Notes: The Black-headed Tody-Flycatcher is an active small bird that likes to forage by moving rapidly to catch insects in the dense foliage. Its call consists of a repeated series of 8 notes like "jyip, jyip, jyip..." given at a slow rhythm. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 7.6 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This tiny bird has a rather long, flat black bill, a short tail, a black iris and black legs. The top and the sides of the head and glossy black. The back is olive and the wings are black but with a yellow-green color on the edges and also two yellow wing-bars. Then, the throat is white and the underparts are all yellow.
