Habitat: This antpitta species can be found in undergrowth and on the floor of humid forests in the lowlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica to northwestern Colombia. Natural History Notes: This bird is almost entirely terrestrial. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total lenth of this varies between 7.25 inches and 7.5 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird is fairly large, does not seem to have a tail, but has fairly long legs. This bird is characterized by a large black crown . The plumage above is brown with chestnut cheeks, and the part below is white with large black bands. We can distinguish beige spots on the wing-coverts and the black throat. The female looks similar but does not have the throat black and the part below is whiter.
