Habitat: This species can be found in undergrowth of humid forest and forest borders. Distribution: This species was reported from Costa Rica to northern Venezuela and southern Peru. Natural History Notes: This hummingbird can be usually found alone in the forest but the males will usually gather during the breeding season. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 15.24 cm and 17.78 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). The bill (beak) is long (3.81 cm) and decurved with the lower mandible mostly red. The male is green on the above and a distinguishable black mask with a strike behind the eye. The part below is metallic green. The tail is long and graduated, with a central pair of feathers elongated and tipped white. The female looks similar but is grayer on the part below and the central feathers of the tail are longer than those of the male.
