Habitat: The Pied puffbird can be found at different levels in forest borders and canopy. It will favor humid forests. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica to Peru and Amazonian Brazil. Natural History Notes: Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: The total length of this species is 6 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This small puffbird has a black plumage above with small white spots on the crown and a white patch on the scapulars. The part below is white with a fine black band on the breast and black bands on the flanks. The tail feathers are white tipped.
