Habitat: This species ca be found in dense shrubby woodland, forest borders and grassy or bushy clearings. Distribution: This species is migratory. It breeds in northern North America and migrate south from Nicaragua to Ecuador and Venezuela. Natural History Notes: The Mourning Warbler forages in low vegetation and may also catch insects in flight. It mainly eats insects and also some plant material during winter. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a latitudinal migratory species. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 12.7 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird is characterized by a gray hood (top of the head) that becomes black on the chest and on the throat. Otherwise, the plumage above is olive green and the part below is yellow. The female looks similar but has an overall duller plumage. Sometimes, the female also has an incomplete white ring around the eye.
