Habitat: Reefs (0.5-70 m deep), and occasionally on mangrove roots. Distribution: Caribbean wide. Very similar species occur in the South and Eastern Pacific. Characteristics: Massive-amorphous, lobate, or mound-shape. Bright red externally and internally. Short conules (0.5 mm high) evenly dirtributed, or tall conules (1-2 mm high) irregularly distributed. Oscules abundant (3-6 mm in diameter), with a thin membrane. Slimy when cut. Notes: Not much is published about the ecology of this sponge.
