Bocas Species Database Habitat: This antthrush species can be found in very humid firests in foothills in the lower highlands. Distribution: This species has been reported from Costa Rica to western Ecuador. Natural History Notes: This antthrush species is almost entirely terrestrial that will be seen walking on the forest floor. However, this species is hard to see since it will usually hide in dense vegetation. Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 6.5 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This species looks similar to the Black-faced antthrush since this bird also has the bare skin around the eyes and or a blue coloration. However, this species is characterized by the entire head, neck, throat and chest of a black coloration. The breast and the belly are pale gray and the under tail-coverts are chestnut. The rest of the part above is dark brown and the tail is black. The female looks similar, except for the part below that is olive brown colored. |
