Habitat: Can be encountered in open areas, gardens, clearings and edge of woodlands. Distribution: The species has been reported from Southwestern Costa Rica and Panama. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 7.62 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). Its beak is small (1.27 cm), straight and black. The male is entirely green with a tail blue-black with a fork shape. The female has a different coloration pattern with green above, a dusky mask and white streak behind the eye. The below part of the female is gray with some green on the sides. Also, its tail is also blue-black, but is not forked and we can distinguish a pale gray coloration on the tip of the outer feathers. This species usually feed on flowers close to the ground but will also climb in trees when they are flowering. Notes: Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC)
