Habitat: You may see that species in open areas such as savannas and short grass areas like golf courses. They may be found in small groups, far from water sources. Distribution: This species breeds in North America, in the West Indies and in Peru. The birds found in North America will winter south to Ecuador and Venezuela. Natural History Notes: Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 22.86 cm and 27.94 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This killdeer bird has black beak and a long black tail. The above is brown with an orange-beige rump. Also, the forehead, eye-stripe, collar on the hindneck and the underparts are all white. However, the breast is crossed by two black bands.
