Habitat: This species prefers sandy and gravelly beach habitats. You may also find them in short grass areas. Distribution: This species was reported from Western and southern Mexico to Chile and central Argentina. Natural History Notes: Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). Characteristics: The total length of this species varies between 13.97 cm and 15.24 cm (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This small plover is part of the semipalmated group of birds. The beak is slim and black and the legs are yellow to pinkish. The above part of the body is gray-brown, except for the large white patch present on the forehead. The crown is cinnamon-red which contrast with the white below part of the body. The breast is white but crossed by a black band.
