Adult: Species description based on Savage (2002). A medium sized treefrog (males to 37 mm, females to 39 mm). The throat of males is dark (white in females). Dorsal: The dorsum is dark brown, with some lighter bronzy or greenish flecks. A white line extends along the sides from just behind the arm to the groin. The upper lip is bordered by a white line. Ventral: The ventral surface is white. Concealed surfaces: The front and rear surfaces of the thighs are yellow or orange. Eye: The iris is a dark red. Extremities: The outer edge of the lower legs are bordered by a thin white line. Breeding season: Breeding occurs at streams during the dry season (Savage 2002). Reproduction has not been observed in the wild (Savage 2002). Egg: Clutch size ranges from 42-142 eggs in captivity (Proy 1993). Eggs are deposited just below the surface of the water in small cavities (Proy 1993, Savage 2002). Tadpole: The tadpole body is oval-shaped with a long tail with shallow tail fins (Savage 2002). Tadpoles are dark brown with many darker flecks and blotches (Savage 2002). The ventral surface is pale (Savage 2002). When viewed from above, the tail appears barred (Savage 2002). The tadpole eye is bronzy, but begins to turn red later in development (Savage 2002). Metamorph juvenile: Juveniles are similar in coloration to adults, except the dorsum is more drab green than brown (Savage 2002). Habitat: Premontane forest from 880 to 1524 m.
