Adult: Species description based on Savage (2002) and Wake et al (1973). Small salamander. Adults 56-74 mm, including the tail. Males and females are similarly sized. Dorsal: Dorsum ranges in color from black to dark brown to dull orange. In some individuals, the dorsal surface is lighter in the center, bordered laterally by darker stripes. Ventral: Ventral surface also black or dark brown, sometimes with yellow spots. Eye: Iris pale-brown in color. Extremities: Hands and feet are completely webbed.
Habitat: Lower montane rainforest between 1670 and 2660 m. Ecology: This species is nocturnal. It may be found on vegetation close to the ground (less than 1 m) at night or hiding in bromeliads during the day (Wake et al 1973, Savage 2002). Physiology: Bolitoglossa minutula have fully nucleated red blood cells (Sessions 1984).
