Adult: Species description based on Savage (2002). Moderate sized, robust salamander. Adult size ranges from 76-160 mm. Females may be larger than males. Dorsal: Dorsal surface light brown with some darker brown markings or plain dark brown. The dorsum looks rather like tree bark. Ventral: Ventral surface is usually darker with many light spots or blotches. Extremities: Hands and feet are completely webbed.
Habitat: Lowland rainforest, marginally in low montane forest, up to 800 m. Ecology: Bolitoglossa lignicolor is arboreal and rarely encountered. Individuals have been found during the day in bromeliads or under logs on the ground (Savage 2002).
