Habitat: This grosbeak species can be found in humid forest and mature second-growth woodland. Distribution: This species has been reported from eastern Honduras to northern Bolivia and Amazonian Brazil. Natural History Notes: The Slate-colored grosbeak can be found alone, in pairs, or even mixed with other clusters of birds. It will forage at middle ad upper tree levels . Conservation status according to IUCN 2008 Red list: Least Concern (LC). It is a resident species. Characteristics: This species has a total length of 8 inches (measured from tip of bill to end of tail). This bird has a unique heavy red bill. The plumage is mostly dark blue with a white patch on the throat. The front of the face is black, as well as the margin around the white patch. The female looks similar but has a paler coloration and with a little touch of olive. The female does not have the black margin around the throat patch.
