Characteristics: Shape: arborescent with erect solid branches and encrusting base, 05m length from base to tallest branch. Color: yellow-orange to light tan. Consistency: compressible and resilient. Surface: finely conulose. Conules 0.5mm in height by 1mm width. Apertures: Oscules 2-4mm diameter, distributed along branches and at tips. Skeleton: Heavily pithed, amber colored spongin skeleton (50-75% pith) with lamination visible at fiber junctions. Fibers of one size, 50-100um diameter (no secondary fibers). Rounded polygonal mesh 300um-1250um Others: Exterior surface is very tough and difficult to tear with fingers, no noticeable odor. Oscules tend to be spread all around the branches. Turn black when out of the water. Notes: Hard to distinguish from A. cauliformis. A. fulva skeleton has much more pith than A.lacunosa
